About the Item
19th century Victorian inlaid and marquetry walnut credenza with mirror circa 1870.
We are pleased to offer this stunning 2 part credenza. Shaped mirror which is attached to the base is a fine example of floral marquetry, using various woods and tones, strung and cross banded along the inside and outside edge. Complete with original mirror plate.
Cabinet section with a breakfront edge, veneered in burr walnut, with stringing and cross banding, finished with a thick moulded edge. Front made in walnut and kingwood, all 4 doors shaped, even the glass which is a fine piece of craftsmanship in it's own right. Central double doors with inlay to the fronts opens to an interior of a single shelf, flanked each side by single door glazed cupboards, each fitted with 2 shelves, still covered in original velvet, which is now faded. Adorned with ormolu mounts and decoration, standing on a shaped plinth base.
Minor restorations to woodwork, surface marks in line with age. Minor plate loss to original mirror plate. Recently re-polished by hand and ready for everyday use.
