About the Item

This is an old box storage made in Japan. It was made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s), and the material used is paulownia wood, which is precious today. Paulownia wood is lightweight and resistant to moisture, and has been valued as furniture for storing clothes and other important items. While this piece has a simple box-shaped structure, the iron lock fittings accentuate it and give the whole piece a good sense of tension. The design is simplicity itself, with a minimalist feel, and embodies a uniquely Japanese sense of aesthetics. The lacquer-coated exterior has been rubbed with time, softening and rounding the corners, creating a natural texture. The countless fine scars are proof of the care with which it has been handled and passed through the hands of people over the years. The lid opens and closes smoothly and is very practical. The interior wood surface is also beautiful and blends in naturally in a modern space. The side handle hardware and other details show the handiwork of craftsmen of the time. It is recommended not only for practical use, but also as an objet d'art or display stand that accentuates a space. It has been cleaned, so you can use it with peace of mind. This is a quiet and powerful piece that is imbued with the spirit of Wabi-Sabi. Weight: 9 kg ______________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
