About the Item
This is an old Tansu made in Japan.
It was made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s), and the material used is rustic and warm cedar wood. It is a piece that embodies the functional beauty rooted in Japanese life, and its presence adds depth to a space through the ages.
The design is ultimately simple. Its structure, devoid of any decorative elements, can be summed up in one word: "Simplicity. The balance between the strong, wide framework and the well-proportioned sliding door is comfortable and gives the viewer a sense of wonder and security. The rugged and solid appearance of this piece of furniture is at once utilitarian and sculptural.
The expression of the wood surface shows that it has been carefully handled with care and attention while being modified many times. Even the rubbing of the corners and the slight unevenness of the coloring are beautiful and have been nurtured over time. The sliding door opens and closes very smoothly, and there are no problems with modern use.
