About the Item
Italian Walnut Sideboard by Titina Ammannati & Giampiero Vitelli for Catalano, 1970s
Architectural Italian walnut sideboard designed by Titina Ammannati and Giampiero Vitelli for Catalano, Italy, circa 1970s. This impressive piece exemplifies the designers’ sculptural modernist approach, balancing bold geometric forms with the warmth of natural materials.
Crafted from solid walnut, the sideboard showcases a rich and expressive wood grain, accentuated by the original hand-rubbed finish. The front is defined by angular, faceted drawer fronts that intersect in a distinctive architectural rhythm — a signature element in Ammannati & Vitelli’s work.
The long, low composition is supported by solid vertical end panels and a recessed plinth, giving the piece a refined floating presence. The configuration offers four drawers and spacious cabinets with internal shelving, providing generous storage while maintaining a pure, linear silhouette.
This example remains in original good condition, displaying a beautiful natural patina and only minor traces of age consistent with careful use. The interior retains the original manufacturer’s plaque reading “creazioni architetti T. Ammannati & G.P. Vitelli – produzione Catalano.”
A rare and collectible work that perfectly captures the elegance of Italian craftsmanship and architectural furniture design of the 1970s — ideal for refined interiors, private collections, or gallery settings.
