Rare Rosewood Sideboard With Bar by Johannes Andersen; Denmark, c. 1960's

About the Item

Designed by the inimitable Johannes Andersen, this exceptional Danish Mid-Century sideboard features not only luxurious bookmatched rosewood veneers, but also a rare configuration that's full of surprises and features. The central tambour doors slide smoothly apart, disappearing into brackets of molded flat-panel trim - a signature of Andersen's work - which flank the opening on either side, revealing the generous storage space with adjustable shelving within. A door to the right opens to reveal two dovetail-joined tray drawers, while a drop-front door and hinged top at the left reveal the pièce de résistance: a dry bar lined in black glass, with a built-in bottle rack ready to accommodate your favorite wines and spirits. Beyond its impressive functionality and features, this sideboard also stands as a testament to the thoughtful aesthetic vision of its creator, Johannes Andersen. Great thought was put into the way the rosewood veneer was applied, so that its vertical figuring blends with the vertical panels of the tambour doors to elongate the piece. Andersen's signature rounded trim not only softens the sideboard's geometric lines - it also echoes the bracket-shaped silhouette of its sculpted handles; establishing through repetition a unique and familiar visual language. These thoughtful design details, combined with the exceptional functionality of its features, make this sideboard a perfect statement piece for the modern home.
