Red Lacquer Cabinet with Original Hand-Painted Decorations, Gansu Province

About the Item

A cabinet from Gansu Province, crafted in elm wood and preserved with its original lacquered surfaces. The front features a deep red lacquer, framed by hand-painted decorations of flowers, foliage etc. The top is finished in red lacquer, while the sides are coated in black lacquer, creating a harmonious contrast. The front includes a pair of doors with a round, patinated brass fitting, with additional panels on each side that can be opened (see photo). Behind the doors are shelves. It remains in its original condition with a natural, age-related patina, enhanced by a clear lacquer finish. From Gansu Province, China, 1850-1870, Qing Dynasty
