Sideboard in Patchwork Venneer, by Jorge Zalszupin, Brazilian Mid-Century Modern

About the Item

This exquisite sideboard, a creation of the renowned designer Jorge Zalszupin, epitomizes the elegance of Brazilian mid-century modern design. It is masterfully crafted from a selection of tropical hardwood, a material choice that not only honors its Brazilian roots but also radiates warmth through its rich, engaging grain patterns. The design of the sideboard is a testament to the mid-century modern ethos of clean lines and functional form. Its elongated, low-profile silhouette is accentuated by the horizontal grain of the wood, lending a sense of expansive calm to the space it occupies. The structure is an embodiment of versatility, boasting an array of drawers of varied sizes, along with spacious storage. This mix of storage solutions offers ample room to organize and display items, making the piece as practical as it is stylish. The drawers are adorned with circular, wooden handles that sit flush against the façade, their subtle presence enhancing the overall minimalistic design. The wood's natural pattern is deliberately aligned across doors and drawers, showcasing Zalszupin's meticulous attention to detail and reverence for his chosen material. Elevating the robust wooden structure is a sleek base, which introduces a visual lightness to the piece. This subtle lift not only emphasizes the piece's stately form but also facilitates ease of cleaning beneath. Zalszupin's sideboard is a celebration of skilled craftsmanship. The joints and finishes are executed with precision, resulting in a seamless integration of the various elements. The surface is polished to a gentle sheen, highlighting the inherent beauty of the wood and the care invested in its construction. In every aspect, this piece is a functional work of art, offering both aesthetic pleasure and utilitarian benefit. It captures the essence of Zalszupin's design philosophy, where the love for material, form, and practicality plays in perfect concert.

  • Jorge Zalszupin's Presidential Lounge Chair, Brazilian Mid-Century Modern Design
    By Jorge Zalszupin
    Located in Sao Paulo, SP
The "Presidencial" lounge lounge armchair is a true icon of Brazilian modern design, created by the legendary Polish-Brazilian architect and designer Jorge Zalszupin in the 1960s. This rare and coveted piece showcases the fusion of two cultures, with its base made of tubular steel and black lacquered metal slats, topped with Brazilian Jacaranda Rosewood veneers in an unusual bentwood design. Zalszupin's innovative use of molded laminate wood allowed him to create the curves he desired, without the need for costly manual processes. This resulted in a beautifully unique armchair, part of a series composed of a sofa and armchair, that has become a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts of Brazilian modern design. The lounge armchair's backrest is composed of profiled hardwood veneer slats, giving the piece a light and organic structure that elegantly accommodates voluminous cushions. Its "U" form seat rests on chrome-plated steel legs with tubular feet, while the armchair's rosewood-reinforced slat back adds a touch of elegance and sophistication. The Presidencial lounge chair is in very good vintage condition and has received new upholsteries in suede. Its sleek and modern design makes it a perfect addition to any space, whether in a home or office setting. While the armchair can be displayed without its original cushions, it also comes with a custom cushion for added comfort and style. Overall, the Presidencial armchair...

  • Jorge Zalszupin Unique Sideboard L'atelier, 1960
    By Jorge Zalszupin
    Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Stunning and unique made sideboard designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by his own comany L'Atelier, Brazil 1960. This is a unique sideboard designed especially for a customer’s holiday home in Biarritz, France 1960. This sideboard is comparable to the modular system designed by Zalszupin in 1959. The difference is that this sideboard has much more elegant round legs on the corners and doors and is partly covered with leather. This was also seen at the modular system sometimes at the doors or panels. It has 3 drawers in the middle and on the left and right of that there are the leather covered folding doors. The sideboard is in fully original condition and the leather has a nice patina from age and usage. This comes from an interior with several pieces by Zalszupin which were imported from Brazil in the early 1960s. All the features this sideboard shows were also used by Zalszupin in other designs, the leather handles in his desks, the legs with the Jockey chairs...
