Sideboard in Slavonian Oak with Glass Framed Doors by Giuseppe Rivadossi
About the Item
A high degree of elegance and refinement are words that immediately come to mind when gazing upon this sideboard. It is a masterpiece of craftsmanship that was made in the Brescian workshop of Giuseppe Rivadossi in the mid-1970s.
Design
The facade of this sideboard is a true spectacle, thanks to the carefully mitred windows that are evenly distributed over the doors. Slavonian oak is a beautiful and easy to work with oak species and this is showcased within this piece. Characteristics of this species are the rich and warm colour shades that vary from dark blond to almost goldish tones. The graceful blonde medullary rays are visible on the vertical parts of the doors. Over the years, the wood has acquired a warm patina and the flame drawings of the oak become deeper and more pronounced. In all its apparent simplicity and modesty in form, there is quite a bit going on. The doors protrude a few centimetres from the rectangular cupboard part, creating a movement outwards, while the windows give the impression of going inwards. These subtle and conscious design choices create a dynamic where light and shadows add an extra dimension. There are four drawers on the left, each with two round knobs. Behind the door to the right is a compact storage space with a shelf. The space next to it is the largest and also has a shelf running the entire length. Robust cabinet doors are five centimetres thick and close neatly with a magnet and the entire interior is made of Slavonian oak, including the inside of the drawers.
