Small and Rare German Art Deco Bookcase with Intarsia, Walnut, circa 1925

About the Item

Small Art Deco display cabinet with marquetry Germany Walnut Art Deco around 1920 Dimensions: H x W x D: 169 x 100 x 34 cm Description: Very rare and extremely delicate bookcase from the German Art Deco. The two-door base is decorated with elaborate inlays. On the pilasters we see inlaid plucked and wind instruments, on each door a folding star. Above the doors, the corpus tapers and has two drawers in the slope. The upper part consists of two glazed doors with a back with shelves that can be adjusted in height by means of a toothed rail. The upper end is formed by a cornice above a kind of dentil frieze with a further inlay of light-dark contrasting woods and mother-of-pearl. On the right side, the central axis of the piece of furniture is discreetly accentuated by a pearl bar. Original oval bakelite key plates framed with brass. This piece of furniture is an excellent example that Art Deco furniture was not always French, black lacquered and high gloss. There were also wonderful and superbly crafted pieces of German bourgeois Art Deco furniture. Condition: Restored and absolutely authentic state of preservation. The surface has been cleaned and oiled with a satin finish. Locks and drawers run smoothly.
