Biedermeier Inspired Scrubbed Pine Armoire from Northern Germany, circa 1820

About

A beautiful large North German armoire in light, honey-colored pine with two doors with three raised panels on each, paneled sides and bracket feet with scalloped apron. Doors open on offset pivot hinges allowing easy access to the armoire's interior. Armoire disassembles into seven sections to facilitate delivery and installation. Comes with original working lock, and key. Northern Germany, circa 1820-1830. Measures: 77" wide x 26 3/4" deep x 91" high 21 3/8" inside depth...perfect for hanging coats or clothing These European pine armoires would have originally been painted in faux finishes to simulate mahogany or walnut. They are closely related to their urban cousins that were being finished with mahogany and walnut veneers and then being French polished. The faux finishes were lost over the years as these pieces were generally overpainted many times until it became popular to remove the paint back to the pine and present them with a wax finish. This is a particularly beautiful example of the North German form from the Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein region up into Denmark. Really charming! Great for storing, hanging, folded clothes, or linens. Comes with 1 cutback shelf at the top. A hanging bar or additional shelves can easily be added.
