Art Deco armoire with sycamore veneer and mahogany interior with brass medallion/locking mechanism and hardware by André Domin and Marcel Genevrière for Maison Dominique (Paris, France, ca. 1930s). Impressive, museum-quality piece, refinished roughly a decade ago in Paris using the correct French Polishing technique of the creation period. Heavy doors open to reveal eight removable (but non-adjustable) shelves supported by threaded brass brackets. The weight of the doors requires the unit to be wall mounted. There are holes original to the piece in the top back corners for this purpose. There is veneer loss to the top back corner of the cabinet, which was previously repaired and cannot be seen at eye level, and a spot of veneer loss to bottom corner of one of the doors, along with light wear/nicks to the front and a couple of gashes and small holes to the inside of the doors (all relatively minor, given its age). A French sycamore wood tall and versatile highboy / wardrobe/ cabinet. Its geometric parquetry inlaid front adds a touch of elegance with patterns of diamonds and cubes. This sculptural cabinet is adorned with an artistic tapered molding that extends beyond the main body, creating visual interest.
