19th Century Chinese Chippendale St. Mahogany Table

About

Thomas Chippendale wrote in 1762: “This table was intended for holding a set of China and maybe use as a tea table”. China tables were popular in Britain but produced in America were British influence was strong (Portsmouth NH, Charleston SC…). The one presented here was made in England and has a gorgeous single board figured mahogany rectangular top with pierced gallery on 3 sides and 4 fret work aprons with drilled pattern. Four triangular cross section legs with sawn and drilled fret work and terminated by their original castors. Having one open side, this rare table can also be a marvelous desk or side table.
