About the Item
This 19th century serpentine front fold top console and games table captures the essence of André Charles Boulle’s work perfectly; with classical designs in brass inlay to the top, front , sides back and the exhibition quality espagnolette figureheads ormolu mounts. The red tortoise shell background is accentuated by ebonised sections of the exterior, and it opens to a baize-lined interior.
This Boulle’ style work consists of overlaying wood surface with a thin layer or tortoiseshell that is inlaid with brass in opulent patterns and elaborate designs.
The piece is Boulle’s finished on all sides and measures 36" in width, 17.5" in depth folded, 35" in depth open and 31" in height.
