American Federal Fold Over Inlaid Tea Table with Tapered Legs Portsmouth, N.H.
About the Item
American Federal 18th Century Portsmouth, New Hampshire tea table with elegant tapered legs and breakfront bowfront folding top. This foldover Hepplewhite tea table opens up supported by one swing leg to seat four people for tea or games. The stained birch is inlaid with panels of birds eye maple crossbanded with rosewood, the front edge of the table top has an inlaid band of various woods. The three panels of birds eye maple framed by the rosewood crossbanding lift this table from the ordinary to the special. The craftsman who designed and created this table had a wonderful sense of proportion and balance and his selection of timbers was flawless. Minor repair. Circa 1790. 36" wide x 17" deep (closed) x 29" high (x 34" deep when opened)
