English Georgian Chippendale Mahogany Piecrust Tilt Top Table

$2,150

About

English Georgian Chippendale mahogany piecrust tilt top table. The single board top is beautifully shaped and carved from the whole. The tripod base has elegant cabriole legs with anthemion carved knees, ball and claw feet and a turned and acanthus leaf carved stem. Both the top and the base have sophisticated carving, however I do not think the top and base started off life together, though they are both 18th century. Circa 1770. Measure: 27 inch diameter.

  • Condition
Additions or alterations made to the original: I think that the top and base were married sometime in the l9th or early 20th century, but they are both 18th century and have been in this configuration for over half of their lives. The top has been refinished within the last 50 years,. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. This marriage is a superb one, unless one examines it minutely, it is hard to tell that it is married.
