Syrian-Style Exceptionally Intricate Wood Marquetry Folding Card Table, 1930s
About the Item
A very uncommon, exceptionally intricate, and visually transfixing 1930s Syrian or Syrian-style wood marquetry folding card table.
Top and sides feature an incredibly complex and very well-executed Damascene or Moorish geometric mosaic design comprised of more than 5,000 exactingly hand-cut and meticulously placed marquetry pieces, with at least twenty-five different shapes and upwards of ten types of variously-colored wood on impressive display.
At each corner are eight-point stars inlaid with one of the four playing card symbols, making its primary intended purpose clear, and suggesting that this table—or at least its top—was hand-crafted for the European or American market.
On darker brown wood frame and slender folding legs with metal slide hinges. Underside of table finished in convincing faux-wood veneer contact paper with an Art Deco geometric design.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. In very good near-antique condition. A bit of light wear and scuffs on edges, primarily at corners. Hinge design and thin legs result in wobbliness and a tendency for legs to become askew; may be correctible with modifications, but offered as found.
