18th Century, French Wood Centre Desk

About the Item

18th century, French wood centre desk Measurements: cm W 95 x D 63,5 x H 71,5 (maximum leg H 57,5) The elegant centre desk was built in northern France in the late 18th century. The wooden structure is finely veneered with exotic wooden essences, such as bois de rose, green wood and satinwood. The table top has a decoration with concentric frames with a large mirror darker to the center that optically reduces the size, lightening the cabinet. The front, with a large drawer, and the sides propose chromatic games through the use of different woods, creating frames and panels. The interior of some of these panels are in black lacquer and create a very fine and particular chromatic contrast. Finely chiselled and gilded bronzes adorn the surfaces embellishing the desk. The four legs, shaped like an inverted pyramid trunk, are also decorated with wooden essences of different colors that aim to streamline the overall architecture. They end with bronze tips. This desk, characterized by a clear and balanced color, is very decorative and refined, easily placed in any room, even in the center of a room as it is completely finished on all four sides. The type of decoration makes it suitable is combined with antique furniture that, particularly, in modern contexts.
