19th Century Louis Philippe Sorrento Walnut Parquetry Center Table

About the Item

A beautiful 19th Century Louis Philippe Northern Italian (Sorrento) walnut center table featuring a superb parquetry top. The table is characterized by a refined inlaid decoration made using small pieces of different precious woods. In the center of the top, there is a large elaborate parquetry star with outer triangular inlaid band and an edge with checked string inlays. This classic center table is perfect for a large entrance or a fantastic centre table in any interior. An exquisite piece, retaining original patina. PROVENANCE: There is a note attached under the table. It is written in Swedish stating that “This table has belonged to August and Gabriella Fröderström's home since 1845.​ Replaced in 1929 with four legs that were in keeping with the style by Harald and Lalla Fröderström”. Harald August Fröderström, born 11 May 1876 in Gothenburg, died 2 February 1944 in Helsingborg, was a renowned Swedish psychiatrist. CONDITION: Please see all photos. A few stable age cracks on the table top. The original center tripod leg was replaced by the second owners Harald and Lalla Fröderström in 1929.

    Replacements made: The center tripod leg was replaced in 1929 with four legs that were in keeping with the style. The provider of the service is unknown. There are dry cracks that can be seen at 1.30, 3, 9.30 and 10 o'clock, in the picture showing the whole table top. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. No structural issues.
