About the Item
An elegant and sophisticated French mahogany Louis XV style morphing table from the early 20th century.
The finely handcrafted, good quality, exceptionally rare six to eight leg ormolu mounted morphing antique table, circa 1930, begins as a console or hall table with half-moon demilune shape top, over a scalloped skirt, the hinged flip-top then lifts and can rest against a wall to give a large backsplash, perfect as an entry piece; continue opening the flip-top and the table becomes a round top, the frame extends placing two legs underneath and making it very sturdy and functional. The tables telescopic expanding frame can then extend to a ten feet long oval dining table with two concealed unadorned drop down support legs in the center. No leaf/leaves present. Rising on six cabriole legs, each with fine gilt bronze ormolu mount, ending on gilded bronze sabots.
Wonderful rich antique mahogany color and tones, with beautiful wood grain patterns and warm, elegantly aged patina.

Hand-crafted in the mid-18th century, most likely originating in the former Provence / Nice / Alps region of the South of France, a beautiful area near the Italian border and Mediterranean sea. Hand carved of solid fruitwood, executed in period Louis XV taste (1715-1774) with sophisticated Rocaille elements.
Featuring a long narrow rectangular five plank boarded top with pleated end, attractive dark rustic patina and desirable overhang; above a simple tall apron with curvacious hand sculpted scalloped edge, rising on elegant cabriole legs.
