Angelo Mangiarotti Eros coffee table Skipper Italy 1971

About the Item

Stunning triangular coffee table from the Eros series designed by Angelo Mangiarotti and manufactured by Skipper in Italy in 1971. Made of solid Mondragone marble with an absolutely mesmerizing grain to it with the typical white veins running through the grey brown marble. Super rare version in mondragone marble. The design is inspired by ancient Rome, and the table has big pillars that not only look strong but also cleverly hold up the top using gravity. Mangiarotti came up with a genius idea for the Eros series—gravity joints. These joints are special because they don't need screws or regular connections. The base of these tables stays in place simply because of the heavy weight of the top. This collection shows Mangiarotti's creative and smart use of materials, marking the high point of his exploration into embedded furniture. In outstanding original condition. Literature; Repertorio Del Design Italiano 195o~2000 Volume 1 Giuliana Gramigna, page 192 Mondragone marble is a type of marble that originates from the Mondragone area in Italy, specifically from the region of Campania. It is known for its beautiful and distinctive appearance, featuring various shades of white, beige, and gray with intricate veining patterns. Mondragone marble is highly regarded for its quality and is often used in architectural and interior design projects, including flooring, countertops, and furniture. It is valued for its elegance and versatility in enhancing the aesthetics of both traditional and contemporary spaces.

  • Patrice Maffei Comete coffee table Kappa France 1971
    By Patrice Maffei, Kappa
    Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Very nice 'Comete' coffee table designed by Patrice Maffei and produced in France by Kappa in 1971. The base is made of stainless steel and is still in a very good condition. The shape itself looks really clean and the curves are smoothly bent sheets of brushed stainles steel that have been put together, there are no signs of joints. This nice shape can be seen from all over, since it has a glass top which is also in a very good condition. No marks of wear can be seen, and the combination of materials really give that space age feeling, which is typical for the ethos of Patrice Maffei. In the 1970's Kappa, in collobaration with various designers, produced  designs that are very characteristic for the groundbreaking progress in space age furniture...

  • Giulio Lazzotti Megeia coffee table pair Italy 1979
    By Giulio Lazzotti
    Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Nice pair of coffee tables by Gulio Lazzotti and manufactured by Megeia, italy 1979. The base consists of four marble columns with beautiful cut lining. Three black and one white. Two black columns are shaped like half a cylinder. The other two are two cylinders with a diameter which perfectly fits in the half parts, a nice visual detail. The bases can be put in a playful position to your wishes. The large square tops are from thick glass. The tables are in excellent condition. Priced and sold in a set of 2. This Postmodern design resembles the relationship between ancient masonry skills and applying these traditions in modern forms. Like some other Italian designers, Lazzotti in particular has an innovative approach towards experimenting with form, especially in stone and marble, and applying these mainly into tables. Giulio Lazzotti is an Italian designer and architect who has always given an important place to objects’s sculptural dimension. A great lover of marble, his work is modern, reconciliating a sense of craftsmanship with industrial production. Often hired as a consultant for his experience, Giulio shares his attention to detail throughout the world and collaborates with major furniture brands. The name of the town where Giulio Lazzotti lives and works, Pietrasanta, can be alternately translated as Saint Peter or “holy stone,” the latter being wholly appropriate for a designer and architect whose work in marble, metal and wood takes on a serene, sculptural presence. Lazzotti was educated at the prestigious University of Florence, where he later returned to teach architecture. Since 1975, Lazzotti has maintained a diverse practice encompassing architecture, interior design and furniture design, winning such awards as first prize for Design at the Moving Fair of Paris, the Torre Guinigi prize in Lucca for Urban Design for the historical center of Pietrasanta, a top ten in the International Chair...

Rare Angelo Mangiarotti Eros marble table. 1971 manufactured by Skipper, Italy. 72.5cm high, 66cm x 44cm... "happiness comes from correctness.“, by Angelo Mangiarotti, architect, designer and professor, born in Milan in 1921. Perhaps because as a visiting professor in Chicago in the mid-1950s he met not only Frank Lloyd Wright, but also Walter Gropius and Mies Van der Rohe. But maybe it just describes his profound architectural understanding of construction and materiality that always influenced his design. And precision is an essential component of his series of “eros” tables developed for skipper in 1971. They consist only of a marble slab and also made of marble column feet that “slot” into prefabricated openings through their conically shaped upper end. The weight of the slab stabilizes the structure like the end stone of a vault. Due to the pure marble...
