About the Item

This Spanish coffee table, crafted from solid chestnut wood, is a beautiful example of functional yet elegant craftsmanship from the first half of the 19th century. The table reflects the character of rural southern Spain, where simplicity and quality went hand in hand. The warm, light honey-colored chestnut wood reveals a lively and expressive grain pattern that has only grown richer with age. The tabletop is impressively simple yet substantial—1.4 inches thick and made from just two wide planks, showcasing the quality of the timber used. It is attached to the base using traditional dovetail joints, a classic technique that is both structurally sound and visually appealing. The legs are clean-lined and gently tapered, lending the piece a refined yet sturdy appearance. At the front, the table features two overlaid drawers with original wooden knobs; the right drawer is fitted with a functioning lock, original key, and hand-forged escutcheon, all details that emphasize the authenticity of the piece. Tables like this were commonly used in living areas as practical work or serving tables, but they also served as a central element in daily life. This piece is in exceptionally good original condition, with all parts—from legs to hardware—still intact and untouched. In our workshop, the table was gently cleaned and given a fresh protective wax finish. This charming coffee table is solid, clean, and ready for everyday use.
