About the Item

This exceptional Spanish coffee table is entirely crafted from solid chestnut wood. The piece shows a warm deep-brown color and a rich patina, the result of centuries of use and careful preservation. The tabletop is particularly remarkable: it is made from a single wide plank, approximately 25 mm thick. Such a construction is highly unusual, as it required an enormous tree. This feature not only highlights the superb quality of the timber but also the craftsmanship of the maker, who worked with rare materials to create a durable and impressive piece. The front is fitted with three drawers, their façades decorated with carved motifs in the Spanish Baroque tradition. The drawers are fitted with hand-forged iron pulls, adding to the rustic authenticity of the table. Stylistically, the table belongs to the rural Spanish Baroque and early colonial tradition, where straightforward construction was often enriched with decorative carving and Moorish- and Renaissance-inspired details. In the 18th century, such tables served as multifunctional household furniture in farmhouses and country estates, used as central tables for serving food, storing utensils in the drawers, or as a work surface in the living space. In our workshop the piece has been carefully cleaned and finished with a fresh layer of wax, which brings out the warm glow of the chestnut wood and emphasizes its natural patina. The result is an authentic and atmospheric table, both functional and a tangible reminder of 18th-century Spanish furniture-making traditions.
