Art Deco Italian Coffee Table With Two Round Tops

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Original and rare Italian coffee table in Art Deco style; the design is peculiar and unusual; the large and massive central column acts as a support for a round top placed on its top, while just below it another round top of the same size as the other one has been placed; the column ends with a black support base provided below with six crushed sphere-shaped feet that give excellent stability to the whole structure. The coffee table was made in an artisan workshop in Lissone (Monza-Brianza-Italy) between 1930 and 1935 ( the Lissone area has always been famous for the production of high-quality carpentry; the craftsmen were inspired by the desire to conceive an object with important dimensions but with decisive and simple lines and gave the coffee table a timeless elegance; its design plays between austerity and originality and its exaggerated linearity gives the object a dynamic and stately character. The two tops and the column have been veneered with European flamed walnut (Juglans Regia), by far one of the most valuable and fascinating woods that make it particularly popular in the luxury furniture sector; the flamed type looks like a set of twisted wood fibers that give the wood its characteristic hardness and compactness; this species of wood also has a unique aesthetic value, since, thanks to the many natural grains, which are always different, it is very elegant and refined; the two tops and the column, although they are worked with the same wood have, logically, different grains and patterns from each other. Veneering is an ancient woodworking technique that consists of applying a thinner layer of fine wood to a substrate of normal-quality walnut wood; the fine walnut wood is harvested from trees cultivated specifically for this purpose, it is then cut into thin sheets whose thickness varies from 1 to 2 millimeters; the base wood is prepared by applying a special glue then the fine walnut sheets are applied manually and uniformly; after this processing the whole is pressed and allowed to dry, allowing the glue to adhere firmly between the fine walnut wood and the substrate, creating a stable veneer; this once dry is finished with sanding, polishing and the application of protective finishes, such as varnishes or oils, to improve the appearance and durability of the wood. The history of veneering goes back many centuries; it is believed to have been first used in ancient Egypt and China. Over the centuries, this technique has spread throughout the world and has continued to evolve, becoming an important part of the production of high-quality furniture, luxury items, and objets d'art. This ancient technique, applied to our table, has made it possible to enhance the colors, flaming, and grain of fine flamed walnut. The artisans who worked on this coffee table succeeded in creating an extraordinary piece of furniture, refined and compelling, extraordinary and unique, capable of communicating to us suggestions of times past, of tradition and functionality. The object has been hand-restored by our team of craftsmen and is in perfect condition. Measurements diameter cm.59, height cm.61, column diameter cm.36.
