About the Item
French midcentury low round top coffee table with a black and red geometric stylized leaf design top supported on 4 black metal legs with gilt bronze sabots (signed: BERNARD DUNAND).
Bernard Dunand was the son and close collaborator to Jean Dunand, one of the most renowned French Art Deco artists, creating lacquer furniture and decorative objects that exemplified the sophisticated taste of his time. Their innovative combination of traditional Oriental lacquer techniques with contemporary forms and abstract decorative designs established their international success. Thanks to his understanding and appreciation of his father’s lacquer-work, as well as his own professional activities as a lacquer artist, many utensils, materials, documents, and sample boards from Jean Dunand’s workshop are preserved.
