This 'Annika' coffee table has birch plywood legs, which are fluently curved and tapered. These light legs are elegantly built and give this piece its unique appearance. The root veneer top is exquisite, the rounded edges finish the table beautifully. Bruno Mathsson (1907-1988) was born in Sweden as the son of a cabinetmaker. His interest in architecture and furniture design developed early in his life. From his first designs on Mathsson was eager to use new, innovative techniques and soon became specialist in bending of laminated wood. In 1937, he was represented at Expo Paris where he won the Grand Prix for his bed called ‘Paris’. This Expo helped Mathsson to get known worldwide. The manager of the MoMA design department got interested in his designs and started to collect and exhibit his pieces.
