Concrete Cube, Golden Veins by Dylan Myers
About the Item
Envisioning a small cube of Black Carborundum with golden veins was Dylans' inspiration for " Golden Vein". While this could be pretty straight forward
Dylan was also scaling this piece and wanted to enhance all the tiny details that go unnoticed which was a challenge. Throughout production different pigment, application techniques and completly out of the box ideas were incorporated. One being de-molding the piece at the perfect time to produce micro cracking yet not comprise its structural integrity. The after allowing the concrete to cure for a few weeks it was time to ... well basically destroy the piece with a hammer replicating time and pressure of natural forces. Golden veins were then painstakingly applied by hand with golden mirrored glass ( crushed by hand with pliers for the perfect size).
The finished " Golden Vein " has a completely distressed yet polished finish with depth and flavor. The golden veins sparkle just enough to catch ones eye to bring them closer. The optical illusion produced with all of the different textures and materials is absolutely brilliant. Depending on lighting or viewpoint the edges , corners and flat ares look rough and gnarly yet smooth as silk to the touch.
