Glass Wood Brass Fireplace Fender Style Large Square Coffee Table Erwin Lambeth
About the Item
Handsome fireplace fender style brass plated aluminum, glass, and wood large square coffee table attributed to Erwin Lambeth. It is in fabulous vintage condition. There are a few small scratches on the brass plating and a few nicks in the wood frame as you would expect with its age. But it has a brand-new piece of glass. Please see photos, circa 1960s-1970s.
We are in love with this gorgeous coffee table! This is the second time we have run across one of these and the moment I saw it I knew we needed another to be able to offer it to you. Although unmarked, we have been able through online research to be very sure of its Erwin Lambeth attribution. It is comprised of a square brass-plated aluminum base which looks like a fireplace fender with aluminum spindles and turned knob detail. It is mounted on a plinth base and is topped by a thick wood edged frame with a glass insert. Outstanding! It is the perfect center of attention as a coffee table should be. Large enough to display an interesting centerpiece or object d’art, along with coffee table books galore, and still room for setting a cocktail or cup of coffee. It will work beautifully with a Hollywood Regency, Campaign, or Traditionally designed space. As well as in a formal living room or a more casual family room.
Erwin Lambeth was a prestigious furniture company based in Thomasville, North Carolina. Erwin Lambeth, originally a family run business, was started in 1901 as Standard Chair Company. However, in 1947 upon the death of James Erwin Lambeth Snr., the name was changed to Erwin Lambeth and was run by James Erwin Lambeth Jr. and his wife, Katherine “KC” Lambeth. Their focus was producing high-end midcentury furnishings for the design trade only and KC’s influence as a woman, a designer, and the first President of the company was infused into every piece. In the 1980s Erwin Lambeth merged with Tomlinson Furniture, who are still creators of fine furniture today. Erwin Lambeth pieces are frequently compared to and mistaken for midcentury greats such as Milo Baughman, Pierre Cardin, and Selig.

Stunning vintage Mid Century Modern coffee table with a black painted wood base & a biomorphic or kidney shaped glass top in the style of Kroehler Pearsall or Tonk. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, it had a few nicks & scuffs on the black base so we gave it a fresh coat of black paint. The glass has one very small chip in edge (may be able to be sanded out) & normal scratching on surface for age. What a beautiful biomorphic BEAST!!!! WOW!!! This is a marvelous vintage mid-century modern style coffee table comprised of a black painted wood base and a biomorphic or kidney shaped glass top in the style of Kroehler, Adrian Pearsall, or Tonk Manufacturing Company. This savvy little coffee table certainly took us on a wild goose chase that I’m not sure is completely over! You can find this table all over the internet attributed to Adrian Pearsall. It is NOT designed by him. Of that we are sure. But definitely in his style so it is easy to see where the misattribution comes from. It is also attributed to Valentine Seever, which is not a single person but two last names. And it may have been promoted by them as they were a division of Kroehler Manufacturing Co. It has also been attributed to Tonk Manufacturing Co., best known for their antique piano and organ swiveling stools; but we have not found actual proof of that. My mother (a “veteran” vintage...
