Hand-Carved Organic Ash Eddy Coffee Table Finished with Shou Sugi Ban Technique
About the Item
This hand-carved piece resembles the eddy created when flowing water moves organically around a rock or other obstructing object. Follow its seams as they twist, intersect and disappear. Shou Sugi Ban charring reveals textured grain in deep black with structural gradient. This piece was created all by hand with approximately 60 hours of carving and sanding leading to a piece like none other.

Danny Francescon
Stemming from a life-long interest in art and creation, I began making modern carved wood furniture in 2016. I found it to be the perfect way to making something aesthetically beautiful while also creating a practice object that could be used and viewed in everyday life. My pieces often have dynamic, flowing and/or organic characteristics to them, and I find that the contrast between this and the expected rigidity of traditional furniture to be a welcome change and much of the reason people find them interesting. I approach product design with the mindset that no shape is impossible and do my best to create them. Other than that, there is no secret or obscure vision.
