Japanese Antique Low Table / Coffee Table / 1868-1912s / Wabi-sabi Mingei

About the Item

This is an old Japanese low table. It was used for reading and writing in Terakoya in the Edo and Meiji periods. On the back, there is a trace that seems to be the letters of that time. It is made of cedar, and it is thought that it was assembled without the use of nails at that time, and you can see the high skills of the craftsmen at that time. After that, nails were used for repair. The legs are a little loose because they can be slid and removed, but there is no problem in use. The surface changed over time, and perhaps because it was used near the hearth, the legs turned to a natural black color with a soot. This is a quaint beauty that cannot be expressed with paint. With a simple structure, you can create a beautiful silhouette in the space. Weight: 3.8kg
