This is a very old Japanese rustic style coffee table.
This furniture is from the Meiji era. (1860s-1900s)
It is carved from a large zelkova tree.
The overwhelming presence of natural wood.
The annual rings and grain of the zelkova are beautiful.
It is in excellent condition with no insect damage.
This table evokes the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence.
Its understated, humble, unconventional beauty is the opposite of vulgarity.
