About the Item

Piala Coffee Table by Idaaf Architects Dimensions: D 70 x W 70 x H 35 cm. Materials: Glass and Georgian clay. ‘Piala’ table is made from glass supported by clay jugs and on top of the ancient wine vessel Piala, reflecting the Georgian wine tradition. Each pot is carefully hand-thrown by a ceramist making each new table unique. Born and based in Tbilisi, Nana Zaalishvili completed her Master’s degree in civil architecture at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. In 2016 she founded studio Idaaf Architects. Since its foundation, the studio has worked on multidisciplinary projects of different types and scale in Georgia and elsewhere. Alongside work on architectural and interior design projects, the sculptural furniture is an important part of the work of the studio. Nana's approach is shaped by Tbilisi's eclectic architecture and its hectic urban scene, as well as the stunning natural beauty of the Georgian vernacular architecture. Nana is author of the book: Soviet Bus Stops in Georgia and many architectural/design essays published in various magazines. Nana leads several researches about material studies and Georgian architecture. Information about her completed and ongoing projects can be found in her website. Idaaf Architects was established in Tbilisi in 2016 and is led by the architect Nana Zaalishvili. Studio works on multidisciplinary principles combining Architecture, Interior Design and Furniture, as well as Research and Material Studies. Each project is the results from the deep cultural, geographical and site research with the aim of creating timeless yet modern architecture and design in Georgia and abroad.

Drop Side Table by Idaaf Architects
Located in Geneve, CH
Drop Side Table by Idaaf Architects Dimensions: Ø 40 x H 50 cm. Materials: Solid walnut. Created and handcrafted in Tbilisi using domestic walnut wood, the ‘Drop’ Table combines traditional craftsmanship with the contemporary language of sinuous form which almost turns it into a sculpture. The round, gently carved table top is supported by three drop legs. Each part of the table is carefully cut from a massive piece of walnut by a carpenter, ensuring that each piece is unique and individually textured. The final touches, such as sanding and wax coating, are applied by the Idaaf Architects. This unique wood is identifiable by its pronounced patterns with veiny cracks and imperfections that together give the table a warm, lustrous quality. Made always from massive wood, the ‘Drop’ table makes use of trees that have been felled because of natural causes, or village trees that have been cut because they no longer bear fruit. So, they continue to live in a different form as indoor sculptures. Born and based in Tbilisi, Nana Zaalishvili...

Supremely elegant and super rare coffee table by Milan architect Lorenzo Forges Davanzati, produced by ELAM,Italy in1961. This design was produced in two sizes this is the larger and rarer variant of an already extremely rare design. The table is made of enameled wood with a decorative stainless steel insert to the pedestal. This table is very seldom seen and was published in Casa Vogue,Domus and the italian design bible "repertorio 1950-80". The table has some minor losses to the original lacquer which can easily be touched in and refinished to blend in with the original lacquer. In November 2009 the first major monograph on Forges Davanzati's architectural and design work was published. 'Lorenzo Forges Davanzati. Architettura e oltre', S. Mason P. De Amicis, November 2009 This design is published in :- Domus ,October 1966 (please see image 2) 'Repertorio 1950-80' Gramigna ,pg 172 (picture with original design date as 1961) , please see image 4 ,pg 167 in Repertorio also shows the table with a set of Rafaella Crespi...
