About the Item

An unparalleled coffee table by the legendary Danish designer Nanna Ditzel for BRDR. Kruger from the 1980s. This design was mainly due to Grete Jalk's role in reviving the joinery exhibitions of the Association of Danish Furniture Makers. In the 1980s she succeeded in linking the remaining highly specialized workshops and her professionals to renowned designers. One of those collaborations was between Brdr. Krüger and Nanna Ditzel, with the intention being to blur the boundary between furniture making and spatial art. The material of choice was mainly maple, a wood that is both light and sturdy. This beautiful coffee table is the result of this special joint venture. Let's start with the legs, which are exquisitely turned and characteristic of the Brdr woodworkers; Kruger. Seamless and tapered for extra strength, they reach, as it were, to the first and largest leaf. These legs are incorporated into the wood with a beautiful blind connection. The top has an extremely minimal curvature from the edges and thus provides a pleasant feeling of volume. But when we look at the technique and refinement of the connection to the second leaf, we see why this can be called a work of art rather than a coffee table. The perfectly flowing line consisting of various twisted parts that are then finished is a feast for the eyes. On top of that is a second and, as you can see, smaller leaf with a round recess in the middle. It contains a bowl completely made of maple wood and we love to call it the pièce de résistance of this item. This bowl is removable and can therefore be placed in a different way as desired. It is an item that will not easily escape anyone's attention. The table is elegant and in beautiful condition and carries a sublime patina. It only shows light signs of wear in a few places. The coffee table is pictured in “Motion and Beauty, the Book of Nanna Ditzel ‘Danish Furniture Designer’ on pages 123 & 162.
