Sori Yanagi 'Monjiro' Coffee Table in Oak and Steel for Hida.
For centuries, famed Hida artisans in Gifu prefecture have played a role in Japan's woodworking culture, crafting iconic bentwood furniture from sustainable local forests. Established in 1920, Hida Sangyo builds upon the Japanese heritage of craftsmanship and sustainability from their headquarters in Gifu, which remains one of Japan's leading furniture production areas. In addition to offering iconic designs from midcentury masters like Sori Yanagi and Enzo Mari, Hida produces contemporary creations from international designers such as Atsuhiko Misawa and atelier oï.
Part of Hida's Yanagi Collection, the 'Monjiro' coffee table is executed in solid white oak and chrome. It pairs with the 'Monjiro' stool or equally well with a sofa. Born in 1915, Yanagi was a founder of modern postwar industrial design methods. His award-winning “Butterfly Stool” was the first Japanese-designed industrial design to receive global recognition.
