Vintage Italian Sunburst effect teak and brass coffee table, 1970s

About the Item

Exceptional vintage Italian teak Sunburst effect coffee table with a satin polished brass base. The sunburst design for table tops can be found in many vintage mid century designs from Denmark, in the Georg Jensen Kubus table, to the UK with tables produced by McIntosh. It’s a time consuming and highly skilled process that involves creating a perfectly blended radial match of veneers that combined together create a ‘sunburst’ effect. I’m afraid little is known about the designer and maker of this piece other than it originates in Italy. This is typified by the use of a polished brass, rather than wooden base and by the perimeter brass insert. Generally Italian tables of this era had a glass or marble top, so it is rarer to find one with a wooden top like this. And what also sets it apart is the quality of the veneer work – it’s on a completely different level to the vast majority that you see with a rich depth of colour and perfectly matched radial teak veneers. It dates from the 1970s and is in very good vintage condition with just light marks to the top and on the base commensurate with age and use.

Vintage Italian Tri-symmetric Cherry wood side table
Located in Highclere, Newbury
Unusual vintage Italian Tri-symmetric Cherry and Satinwood side table. This is a wonderful little decorative side table created in the same style as Tri-symmetric occasional tables with 3 angular and equally opposed legs. It has a Cherry wood top supported on a Satinwood base that features beautiful figuring in the wood. The fine wishbone legs having a soft and contoured rounding to the fore of each angle and with radial veneers to the top that display a high level of craftsmanship. It’s by an unknown designer and maker but is clearly a quality item as Satinwood was only ever used as accents on expensive furniture...

Large Vintage Robert Heritage Mid Century Teak, Afromosia and Sapele sideboard
By Robert Heritage, Archie Shine
Located in Highclere, Newbury
A very large Vintage Mid Century Teak, Afromosia and Sapele Knighstbridge sideboard/credenza designed by Robert Heritage for Archie Shine. Standing at just over 244cm in length the Knightsbridge really was the Grand Daddy of all Heritage’s amazing sideboards; not to mention the combination of wood that gave it a wonderfully aesthetic appeal. It’s therefore a long sideboard that would naturally suit a large room or hallway. The drawer section is ribbed Afromosia (which is a harder African teak variant with a richer darker colour) whereas the main cupboard and top section is a more traditional golden teak. But in addition, Heritage has finished the main doors off in Sapele which is a lighter cross cut Mahogany variant that creates a ribbon grain effect as it catches the light – the doors can therefore look lighter or darker in colour as you walk around the piece. As regards storage, there’s a lot on offer. The sideboard has 4 large drawers with beautifully detailed handles and with stylised ribbed fronts – and then there are two sets of doors which reveal two large two tier storage...
