17th Century Italian Baroque Walnut Table / Console Table

About the Item

Baroque table hand-made and hand-carved in Southern Italy in the mid 1600s. Firstly, the top is a single board about 1.5 inches thick made of solid walnut; by itself it weighs as much as I do after Christmas dinner at my nonna. The top is gorgeous, with beautiful marks made by time and usage, and has a stunning patina accumulated over the years. The apron is decorated on all sides by geometric carvings, found also on the drawers fronts. The table features two inset drawers with beautiful and large hand-made dovetail joints, secured with square nails. The legs are hand-turned and end with bun feet. The table has a square stretcher along the bottom that shows wear accumulated over time. Overall this is a fantastic and very old table. The proportions are elegant and the color is deep and warm.
