A Spanish walnut wood stretcher table, with beautifully carved lyre legs, from the 18th century. This antique table from Spain features a rectangular-shaped top which is comprised of a single board, raised upon a pair of scrolling lyre-legs with carved tassels adorning their outer edges and swirling medallion accents at their tops and sides of each volute foot. Elegant forged-iron stretchers fill the space beneath the table with an arch-shaped design, and disc accents. The walnut wood is warm and rich, with lovely patina and age, reflective of it's history. It shows the typical features of the 17th-18th century baroque design vocabulary. Consequently acanthus leaves and scrollwork embellish its otherwise symmetrical structure. It comes in original condition with the expected wear and tear and some retouches from earlier restorations and measures H 29.53 x W 25.99 x D 13.78 inches (H 75 cm x W 66 cm x D 35 cm). During the 17th century, the Baroque style had a marked effect upon furniture design throughout western Europe.
