About the Item
Antique 18th century French Baroque carved giltwood and marble console, circa 1790
This magnificent and elegant denim lapis marble granite top console table is beautifully carved from mahogany wood and gilded. The console is raised on two thick cabriole legs. Each leg is impressively carved to great detail in foliate design with scrolls and shells, all upon an etched background. Above each leg are scrolling cabochons flanking the arbalest shaped frieze. This French Baroque table is generously carved. It's appeal is well expressed as extravagance and beautifully balanced decor that will elevate any room.
Condition: The back of the console is stabilized with a later wood. There are some age cracks noticed. Otherwise, wear is consistent with age and use.
