About the Item

Italian carved and silvered wood consolle Naples, Italy, early 18th century This finely carved and silvered wooden console table is a remarkable example of the decorative repertoire typical of Louis XIV, with elements of particular sumptuousness for the sculptural resolution of the carving, entering the Baroque period as an example of Neapolitan (Italian) cabinet making. The consolle has a carved band with elements with large vegetal volutes and a rich shell carving on the central part. The four legs are characterized by an arched movement, joined by crosses with an elaborate carved decoration in the centre. The top have a particular value: it is in molded “alabastro fiorito”. In the important Italian palaces between the 17th and 18th century, the consolles were among the most sought-after furnishings, emblem of the richness of the client, to show off in the large halls of representation. This type of highly decorative furniture is still of great scenic effect and contributes to the majesty of every your environment that hosts it.
