About the Item
A Handsome Gilt console table of Early Georgian Style
The whole, gilt: the shaped and lobed cornered top of carved gesso having in the centre the figures of Diana and a stag in a cartouche: the stag and deer motif repeating among the copious arabesques. The apron is centred by a stylised scallop shell, and having an opposed running Vitruvian scrolls: the corners decorated with grotesque masks, with bellflower trailings, and the cabriole legs having inturned scroll feet with acanthus enrichments.
