19th Century French Gilded Marble-Top Console

About the Item

French console has festoon with leaves, flowers, and shells; plus highly scrolled feet and cabriole legs. The stretchers are joined In the center by a shield cartouche. The border of the top of the console is ornated with ribbed wood below a serpentine white marble. It is made of wood and stucco. This console belonged to the Antiguo Casino de Ponce in Puerto Rico, that was built on 1922 which at the time was the social club for Ponce's elite. This historic club architecture was based on the Second Empire and Rococo Revival styles. The casino represented the lifestyle of the city of Ponce where the most influential families met.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. In the back left corner of the marble top there is a small triangular chip,but it doesn’t show from the front view. Prefer to put distressed because of small pieces missing but other than that is a solid and strong console.
