Angelo Mangiarotti 'Eros' Console Table for Skipper

About the Item

Designed by Angelo Mangiarotti; made in Italy, and distributed by Skipper from the 'EROS' series. This iconic table is made out of Black Marble the console table is supported on two conical bases which act as legs. Beautiful subtle veining in the marble and gentle organic curves throughout. This model is the larger of the sizes produced and is from the original production line done in 1971. An iconic piece of furniture that also acts as sculpture which will add warmth and intrigue to any space. Angelo Mangiarotti's (1921-2012) central philosophy as an architect was to create forms that responded directly to the material's properties. The weight of marble inspired him to create the 'Eros' series of tables in the 1970's for Skipper It relies solely on gravity to bond the slabs of marble together without fixings or glues a masterstroke in minimalist philosophy and engineering. This table effectively has 'gravity' joints. The slab of Carrara marble sits snugly around each of the solid marble conical legs making it incredibly sturdy. The word 'Eros' refers to the male-female coupling and represents this interlocking design. It is truly an ingenious and elegant design.
