About the Item

An iconic masterpiece by Angelo Mangiarotti, designed in 1971 as part of the groundbreaking Eros series for Skipper, Italy. This larger model console table is crafted from luxurious black Carrara marble, featuring two solid conical bases that serve as both sculptural legs and structural supports. The table’s elegant form showcases gentle, organic curves and subtle veining that highlights the natural beauty of the marble. Ingeniously engineered, the Eros design relies solely on gravity—the weight of the slabs bonding the components together without fixings or adhesives. The marble slab snugly fits around each conical leg, creating a robust yet minimalist structure with what Mangiarotti called “gravity joints.” The name Eros symbolically references the male-female coupling, reflecting the harmonious interlocking design of the table. This piece is both a functional console and a sculptural object, embodying Mangiarotti’s philosophy of form following material and structural truth. Angelo Mangiarotti (1921–2012), a visionary architect and designer, emphasized material responsiveness in his work. His Eros series remains a celebrated example of mid-century Italian design innovation, seamlessly blending engineering precision with artistic elegance.
