Antique 19th century French Gold Baroque Console Table, Bianca Rosa Marble Top
About the Item
A beautiful late 19th century French hand-carved Rococo console table with a Bianca Rosa marble top. This console table has an elegantly hand-carved skirt with a centered St Jacobs shell flanked by a baroque foliate ornament with complex volute floral and foliate carved cabriole legs. The legs are joined by cabriole stretchers with a hand-carved rococo ornament in the middle. The table is made in solid pine smoothened with gesso. The gold color is a gold paint finish over a red bole undercoat. Gold dust was mixed with a clear lacquer to achieve the metallic gold color. The table is finished in various variations of gold color and has a beautiful patina. This table has a nice width making it an ideal candidate for a hall side table.
The table was gently cleaned in our workshop and minor parts were retouched. The bottom ornament was reattached. Due to the solid hand-carved ornaments, the table is structurally very strong. It features also earlier gold touch-ups, however, they contribute to the antique look of the piece.
