This console features a rare, handcrafted console table by Raymond Subes from 1930, showcasing the elegance and mastery of wrought iron (fer forgé) design. Subes, a celebrated French designer, was known for merging artistic craftsmanship with functional decor. The console’s dimensions (139x55x75 cm) and intricate ironwork demonstrate a commitment to detail and durability, capturing the Art Deco style’s timeless sophistication. This piece stands as a collector’s item, representing both historical craftsmanship and enduring aesthetic appeal. A former student of the École Boulle and the École nationale supérieure des arts decoratifs, Raymond Subes is one of the most famous French ironworkers of the Art Deco period. Throughout his career, he worked in the firm of Émile Robert, who was associated with Ernest Borderel, until 1970. He was first designer, then artistic director and finally general director.

About Edgar Brandt Edgar William Brandt (December 24, 1882 - May 8, 1960) was a French metalworker and industrialist who was active during the Art Deco period. He was born in 1880 in Paris, and he trained as a metalworker before opening his own workshop in 1902. He quickly gained a reputation for his exceptional metalworking skills, and he became one of the leading figures of the Art Deco movement. Brandt's work was characterized by its innovative use of materials, including wrought iron, bronze, and glass, as well as its striking Art Deco style. He was particularly known for his use of intricate, organic forms inspired by nature, as well as his use of bold, geometric shapes.
