About the Item
This carved and gilt console table is a fine example of Swedish neoclassical design. A honed slab of Statuary marble sits elegantly atop the spiral-turned painted and gilt legs. The base was decorated to resemble porphyry, a valuable igneous stone which came under imperial monopoly under Roman rule.
