A French 19th century Louis XVI st Ormolu Mahogany Tulipwood marble console
About the Item
A stunning and most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu, Mahogany, Tulipwood and Cipollino Verde marble console. This truly stunning freestanding console is raised by four round tapered Mahogany legs being supported on round tapered spiral fluted Ormolu feet. Connecting the four legs is a central tier with a diamond pattern of parquetry containing beautiful marquetry of blooming flowers while displaying a fine spiral beaded Ormolu gallery. This style of marquetry is referred to as Marqueté à la Reine which translates to the 'Queen's Marquetry'. Separating the top from the central tier are four fluted Mahogany columns with berried laurel Ormolu bands around the plinths and capitals. Each of the three straight aprons are designed with spiral designed Ormolu bands. Above the front and both side aprons are rectangular panels edged with beaded Ormolu bands that surround the Marqueté à la Reine designs similar to the designs on the central tier. Each rectangular panel is flanked by finely detailed Ormolu rosettes. The Cipollino Verde marble top displays mottled edges and adds a beautiful accent of color amongst the wood and gilded shades throughout the rest of the piece.
