French Art Deco Wrought Iron and Travertine Console Attributed to Edgar Brandt

About the Item

A Rare and Elegant double tier French Mid-century / Art Deco console, side table or nightstand attributed to Edgar Brandt. The piece is composed of hand-hammered wrought iron with a top of travertine and lower level of glass. The table is a work of fine art and craftsmanship. It is perfectly proportioned, delicately hammered so the hammer marks are visible and has a timeless composition. The wrought iron front panel features a modern neoclassical nature motif of leaves and acorns surrounded by gently curving vines. The hammered legs gradually taper and end in ball feet. As a double level piece it is also multi-functional and can work in many contexts and room settings. Edgar Brandt was the leading French iron worker / designer of the French Art Deco period. His work defined Art Deco ironwork and it can also be found in public buildings in Paris and New York. Literature: Edgar Brandt: Master of Art Deco Ironwork, Joan Kahr, New York, 1999.
