French Early 19th Century Louis XV Style Console and Matching Mirror
About the Item
A monumental and most impressive French early 19th century Louis XV st. giltwood and white Carrara marble console and matching mirror. The stunning wall mounted console is raised by outstanding cabriole legs with richly carved acanthus leaves and decorative scrolled designs. The legs are connected by a wonderful stretcher with a central carved floral reserve. The elaborately pierced frieze displays exceptional scrolled movements centered by finely carved grape clusters, wheat and most charming detailed carved flowers. The original white Carrara marble top follows the contour of the console with an elegant scalloped shape and mottled border. The original matching mirror is raised by charming scrolled feet with a fitted mirror background. At the center of the base is a smooth cabochon with lovely carved flowers, amidst striking pierced scrolled movements with fitted mirrors, that repeats at each side. The oval center mirror displays a fine reeded design. Above are richly carved swaging floral garland and the most impressive pierced scrolled top crown with floral accents. All original gilt and mirror plates throughout.
