French Louis XV Style Gilded Marble Top Antique Console Pier Table

About the Item

LOUIS XV STYLE CARVED GILTWOOD AND MARBLE-TOP CONSOLE TABLE France, circa 20th century corners of frame stamped "MAHE O'CHINAL" Item # 403QER18A A very attractive carved and gilded console table executed in the Louis XV taste, the table features a lovely veined marble top shaped to conform to the curvature of the console table frame. This is carved with a pierced central motif of opposing foliate C-scrolls surrounded by rocaille lobing and outward flowing blossoms flanked on either side by an incised latticework display. The legs are carved to match the spirit of the apron with large blooming flowers framed in C-scrolls over acanthus curving over the knees along the upper half of the cabriole legs that terminate in robust scrolled toes dressed in acanthus. The construction is tenon-mortised with large pegs driven through to lock it firmly together, many of these having gently popped due to the shrinkage and expansion of the wood over time. The corners of the legs are stamped MAHE O'CHINAL. Measurements: 33 5/8" H x 27 1/4" D x 58" W Condition Report: Extensive gilt loss, particularly to the back right foot which has almost completely lost its gilding (gesso exposed); chipping to the edges of the legs and throughout; marble in excellent condition with only minor scuffs and scratches; images show some crayon markings on the apron which have since been carefully removed; hairline separations in joints and some slightly popped pegs; sturdy and strong in all joints.
