About the Item

An exquisite Italian 18th century Genovese st. giltwood and soapstone console. The freestanding console is raised by impressive richly decorated cabriole legs with scrolled acanthus leaf topie shaped feet, intricately detailed fluted wave like patterns, and superb foliate carvings amidst large scrolled movements. Above each leg are finely carved cabochon reserves flanking the superb pierced decorative apron with a beautiful scrolled foliate central reserve. Above is the original soapstone top fitted within a fine mottled giltwood border with scrolled designs at the corners. All original gilt throughout.
