Italian early 19th century Louis XVI st Giltwood Rosso Verona marble console
About the Item
An impressive and most decorative Italian early 19th century Louis XVI st. Giltwood and Rosso Verona marble console. This beautiful freestanding console with its original gilding and marble top is raised by four tapered fluted legs supported on mottled ball feet. The four legs are connected by an 'X' stretcher with mottled edges of Coeur-de-Rai carvings and a foliate decorated urn shaped central reserve. The stretcher connects to each leg with a rosette carved block at the base of each rounded tapered fluted leg. The mid section of each leg has a cylindrical shaped knee with scrolling carvings. Above the knee is a two level palmette and acanthus leaf spray that supports the top. The straight front apron is decorated by a beaded Giltwood band and square rosette panels on both ends. The square panels on each end flank two rectangular panels decorated by berried foliate carvings, flowing ribbons, and a flaming torch and quiver of arrows in the center. The two rectangular panels flank the central reserve panel containing scrolling foliate carvings. The side aprons are decorated similarly to the front apron with two rosette blocks on each and and rectangular panels in the center. The stunning fitted original Rosso Verona marble top is edged with pedaled carvings of acanthus leaves.
